Who's Trainwreck?

Meet the boys in the band!

"Rockaday" Johnny - guitar, vocals

Did folk music for years before turning in his 5 string banjo for a guitar. Knew Woody, Phil, Ramblin Jack, Roger, Sebastian and Little Bobby Zimmerman from Hibbing, Minn. Played with Billy Austin and the Oompahs at many local colleges in the early 60s. Rockaday Johnny Schreiber played in his first rock and roll band "The Grapes" in 1967. "The Grapes, of course I remember them. They played our songs better than we did". (Paul McCartney in Rolling Stone, Feb. 1968).....We did Spoonful, Otis, Stones, The Vandellas, all the hits of the day. Late 80's through the early 90's worked as chief guitar accompaniest for the all girl group from Queens "Penny and the Peachpitts". We played every comedy club in NYC and did several important nights at CBGBs around 91 or 92. Now it's either Ella Jenkins, Raffi or Trainwreck. Last week I did a Martin Luther King assemblege with about 800 children and adults. "This Little Light", He's Got the Whole World", "Lift Every Voice". Next week or next month or next year.......who knows. "I'll play my axe for anyone at anytime of the day or night with or without remuneration. Give me a mike and a quarter inch jack for my MelodyMaker and stand back." Great shows I have seen: Dion and the Belmonts....Atlantic Beach 1963, Jimmy Castor Quartet....Lido Beach 1964, James Brown at the Apollo theatre.......65, Rolling Stones at the Brooklyn Academy of Music...1964, Beatles at Shea Stadium 1965....upper deck even with third base yeh yeh yeh, The Band at Fillmore East....1969, The Doors, Fillmore East...1969, Janis Joplin Fillmore East 1969, Jimmy Hendrix, Fillmore east 1967 and Central Park, Otis Redding.....Cental Park 1967, couldn't figure out what "sock it to me" was supposed to mean. Stones at Altamont Speedway December 1969...."why are we fighting". Mick was such an idiot. Actually said hello to Charlie Watts that afternoon as he made his way through the crowd in those ugly plaid pants. I said "Hi Charlie" and he said to ME, "Thanks for coming". Concert for Bangladesh, MSG 1970 or 71. The Who at Lincoln Center performing "Tommy" also 70 or 71. There's more but I can't remember. I'm happy to be a part of the never ending Trainwreck industrial tour. The guys are terrific, the music is great and we're making history.

Johnny Mac - lead guitar, vocals

Started playing guitar at the age of nine, Johnny Mac has been playing and singing for over 35 years which now brings him to legal drinking age. He’s played out at bars, clubs, festivals, and backyard bbqs since 1980 with many bands such as Bleeding Heart, Johnny Mac and the Pack, The Expressions, Undercover Funk, Jeff Shellof Quartet, Vivian and the Merry Makers, Wayne Holmes Orchestra and The Fusion Collective to name a few. He has studied guitar with top musicians such as Billy Bauer, Mike Belajonas, Pete Rogine, Allonzo Gardner, and Randy Reed. His higher education has earned Johnny both a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Masters degree in music performance and education. He is currently a elementary ed music educater and teaches privately as well. “How I ended up with these freaks I’ll never know” is how he puts it when he speaks of his experience with Trainwreck before adding, "why is it we don't play every night?".

Joey - guitar, vocals

In the sixties, Joey borrowed a Gibson Hollow Body from a family member. Somewhere along the line he found an Ampeg to plug it into. Since those early daze you can't ply a guitar from his hands. Although he currently plays a Fender, he sobs violently when saying goodbye to it every day when he leaves for work in the morning. Usually spends his lunch time at a guitar shop staying current on the new technology and cheats on his Fender while fondling hot new guitars. This Trainwreck power forward is a studio rat and is known to show up at NY studios and sit in with whoever is in the house. He still has the Gibson and he's not giving it back.

Ray M - bass guitar, vocals

Ray M has worked through the unenviable task of replacing the beloved Tony C in the Trainwreck lineup since the begining of 2009. It's very similar to Tino Martinez coming to the Yankees after Don Mattingly's exit. His sublime bass lines and powerful sound has added the neccesary back bone to lay down the Trainwreck groove. Ray also plays in Magic Hat when not holding down the bottom end for Trainwreck. He hits home runs every night he plays and Trainwreck is thrilled to have him aboard.

Kato - percussion

Plain and simple...this cat is just dripping in cool. His precise conga ryhthms and extraordinary persona make Kato a welcome addition to Trainwreck. He's been playing all over New York with countless musicians for years.

Ray Fitz - trombone

Nobody knows where Fitz came from. He walked into a Trainwreck gig one night...nobody remembers when, with trombone BLAZING. He walked in another night playing a tuba. Fitz brings a new dimension to the Trainwreck sound playing rythym, background or taking unprecedented leads. He's not always available as his full time musicianship finds him in Broadway orchestra pits most nights. The band loves him, the fans love him.
